connections I have so far made:
William James studied painting in Newport, RI with William Morris Hunt (who painted "Landscape at Newport") ---> William's brother was Richard Morris Hunt, the famed architect who worked much in Newport, notably conducting renovations on Beechwood, the Astor mansion ---> The first prominent Astor, John Jacob, was a merchant and fur trader who worked for a time in St Louis.
currently reading for my project on bodies of water: "Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How It Changed America." So far so good.
holler.
